Comtrarian idea’s unpopularity does not make it true. He could enjoy his fundamentalism in the knowledge that he had intimate access, as it were, to its opposite. Hitchens was courageous in both life and death. There are fringe views that deserve to be marginalized, and then there are dissenting views which need to be heeded, or at least considered.

Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. Liberals and conservatives have variously laid claim to Christopher Hitchens, but neither can.
He knows it very contragian himself though I’m not sure most of those who lump him with Dawkins or Harris do. People began to stand up at meetings and orate about how they felt, not about what or how they thought, and about who they were rather than what if anything they had done or stood for.
Hitchens makes some great points, however his flowery wording made it hard to keep my concentration. I am sifting through his points, and think that Hitchns see some of what he is arguing a bit differently. I am told that my neutral face is a pissed-off face.

Yet, it is not. No one is quite as good at being condescending and disagreeable and intelligent and hilarious all at once. He too often got lost in his scotch-driven ramblings for most of his work to be of any lasting intellectual value. Letters to a Young Contrarian Cover of the first edition. Until this year I think it would be fair to state that I probably knew Hitchens more from his appearances on television and subsequently on Youtube, the true source of my knowledge.
There is no such thing as a former Trotskyite, the protestations are always too intense, the analyses too reflective of the world the Trotskyite claims he has left behind. Shun the ‘transcendent’ and all who invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself.

Through the years reading Christopher Hitchens has been hit or miss for me. Unfortunately, unlike God is Not Conntrarian, I found this one to be a real slog to get through.
